Fr. Irvin Morastil, OMI, Oblate Youth & Family Ministries Director addresses the Youth Delegates during the Oblates’ Day and Youth Encounter & Youth Vigil with the pilgrim Oblate Jubilee Cross at NDMC gymnasium, February 17, 2017.
February 17, 1826 was the day our Constitutions and Rules as Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate congregation was officially approved by the Pope. Thus, began our famous Oblates Day celebration every 17th of February!
Last February 17, 2017, around 300 young people from the Oblates Kidapawan District and a few delegation from Cotabato District – Maguindanao Cluster gathered at Notre Dame of Midsayap College (NDMC) to celebrate Oblates Day. It coincided as well with NDMC hosting the pilgrim Oblate Jubilee Cross thus making the occasion a truly meaningful encounter with each other. The delegates and participants were composed of young people from the Parishes of Antipas, Pikit, Aleosan, Midsayap, Datu Piang, Broce, Nuro and Timanan. A big delegation of young people came from the hosts Parish and School, youth and student volunteers from both the Archdiocesan Shrine of Sr. Sto. Niño Parish and Notre Dame of Midsayap College. Our Oblate Aspirants from the De Mazenod Community in Cotabato City also came in full attendance with their Formator, Fr. Ross Kapunan, OMI.
The said activity was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the Oblate Youth Philippines, the Parish Youth Ministry of the Archdiocesan Shrine of Sr. Sto. Niño Midsayap and the host institution - Notre Dame of Midsayap College CMRE Office headed by NDMC Chaplain, Fr. Rockmoore Saniel, OMI. Most of all, our gratitude and appreciation goes to NDMC President, Fr. Rogelio Tabuada, OMI for his great and excellent support in making sure we are all taken-cared of!
Early in the morning of February 18, 2017, with most of the delegates barely getting a few hours sleep, lit their torches and candles and everybody embarked on a symbolic and solemn Dawn Procession with the Oblate Jubilee Cross from NDMC to the Archdiocesan Shrine of Sr. Sto. Niño. Indeed, to witness our young people prayerfully walking in silence with their torches and candles lit is magnificent to behold!
The activity concluded with a Eucharistic Celebration at the Archdiocesan Shrine of Sr. Sto. Niño Midsayap presided by Fr. Rockmoore Saniel, OMI, NDMC Chaplain.
